The SCIMIN-CRM consortium met on 7-8 October at the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) in Madrid to review progress after the project’s first year. Representatives from all work packages presented updates on technical, environmental, and strategic activities linked to the recovery and sustainable use of critical raw materials.

Partners discussed ongoing work on mineral recovery systems, environmental and health-related assessments, data modelling, and the status of the pilot sites in Spain, Sweden, and Austria, along with planned actions for Bosnia and Herzegovina. These exchanges helped clarify how the project’s technical developments are progressing and where coordination between teams will be required in the coming months.

STRATAGEM contributed updates on the initial steps for building the market and replication strategy, as well as examining factors influencing the potential uptake of the project’s results. Additionally, ongoing work on clustering and stakeholder engagement was discussed, focusing on upcoming activities that will support broader visibility and cross-project cooperation.

The meeting also included an intervention by the European Commission’s Project Officer, who acknowledged the consortium’s dedication and the relevance of SCIMIN-CRM for Europe’s efforts toward responsible resource use and strategic resilience.

As the project moves into its second year, partners agreed on the key actions needed to maintain steady progress and strengthen integration between technical and horizontal tasks. STRATAGEM will continue contributing to the project’s exploitation-oriented work and collaboration activities, supporting the advancement of sustainable and technically sound approaches for the valorization of mining waste facilities.
